The Carleton Ravens men’s hockey team fell 3-2 Friday night in Oshawa, Ont., losing to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in overtime.
The Ridgebacks were the team that got out on the front foot in this one. Jeremy Michaud (Victoriaville, Que.) opened the scoring less than nine minutes in with his first of the season. About three minutes later, Sean Ross (Bracebridge, Ont.) scored on Ontario Tech’s first powerplay of the game to give the Ridgebacks the 2-0 lead with his fourth of the season. Ontario Tech outshot Carleton 15-8 in the opening frame.
After a slow start, the Ravens got their game going in the second period after killing off an early Alexandre Hogue (Embrum, Ont.) holding penalty. Carleton turned the tide of the game, spending much of the period in the Ridgebacks’ zone. Just when it looked like Ontario Tech goaltender Leif Hertz (Kingston, Ont.) was about to bail his team out of a 5-on-3 penalty kill, Garret Wright (Thunder Bay, Ont.) beat Hertz with a wrister for his first as a Raven to give Carleton a huge late goal going into the third period.
Just five minutes into the final period, Alexandre Hogue (Embrum, Ont.) potted his first for Carleton as the puck squirted loose to him at the point before he roofed one over Hertz. With the teams locked in a 2-2 deadlock after the third period, Carleton would play overtime for their third straight game.
In the extra frame, Andrew Suriyuth (Kingston, Ont.) beat Carleton goaltender Mark Grametbauer (Halifax, N.S.) snapping a shot off the goalpost and in as the Ravens would fall 3-2 in overtime, still picking up a point in the standings. The Ravens are now 1-3 in games that have gone past regulation and the team stands at 3-2-3 on the season.
The Ravens are back in action tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. where they will take on the Nipissing Lakers for the second time this season. Carleton won the first matchup between the two teams scoring a season-high eight goals back on Sept 15.
