MONTREAL - The Carleton Ravens are back in the win column following an important 4-2 win on the road Friday night at McGill.
Mark Grametbauer had 40 saves as the Carleton Ravens played spoilers during McGill’s annual Carnival Game.
The Ravens once again found themselves skating from behind on Friday night, trailing the McGill Redbirds early in the first period. The Ravens opened the game taking three consecutive minor penalties before Caedan Daley would open the scoring.
Fighting from behind, the Ravens their unique brand of physicality to the game which saw them earn a powerplay late in the period. However, the Ravens were unable to capitalize and trailed by one after twenty minutes.
In the second period, the Ravens' offence came alive as Kieran Craig (Hawkesbury, Ont.) scored his fifth of the season ninety seconds into the period and Madoka Suzuki (Kanagawa, Japan) scored his third of the season on the powerplay to carry a 2-1 lead into the third.
Alex Johnston (Ottawa, Ont.) scored his fifth of the season just over five minutes into the third to put the Ravens ahead by two before William Rouleau cut the lead to one midway through the final frame.
As the Redbirds pushed hard, the Ravens continued to get clutch goaltending from starter Mark Grametbauer (Halifax, N.S.) who stood tall turning aside a series of McGill scoring chances down the stretch. After Grametbauer deflected another onrushing Redbirds chance high and wide Craig would add his second of the night into the empty net sealing at 4-2 win for the Ravens.
The Ravens will play on the road again next Friday as they travel to RMC before return home to host the uOttawa Gee-Gees at The Arena at TD Place on Sunday, January 22, 2022, in the fifth annual Colonel By Classic.
