The Carleton Ravens have now won back-to-back home games in overtime following a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the OUA leading UQTR Patriotes.
In a tightly contested affair the Ravens opened the scoring in the first period when Alex Johnston (Stittsville, Ont.) banked a puck off the back of Patriotes goaltender Alexis Gravel. The Pats would tie it up before the end of the period when Vincent Milot-Ouellet beat Mark Grametbauer (Halifax, N.S.) in traffic.
With Johnston in the box to start the second, veteran Brogan O’Brien broke in on Gravel scoring his fourth of the season shorthanded to retake the lead. Carleton’s lead would be short-lived as Simon Lafrance scored his fifteenth of the season with Kaleb Bulych in the box. Before the period was over, the Ravens would rally with a pair of quality scoring chances including a glorious chance in the slot for Parker Aucoin (Sturgeon County, Alta.) but it would be the Patriots to score next as Mathieu Boucher beat Grametbauer for another power play goal sending the visitors up for the first time on the night.
The Ravens would be forced to come from behind in the third as the Patriots doubled their lead on Julian Tessier’s ninth before the power play went to work. With a five-minute advantage Nick McCarry would score 5-on-3 before Parker Aucoin scored 1:12 later to tie the game with 10:24 to play. The two teams would grind out the third period extending the game into three-on-three overtime.
Midway through the extra frame, Ravens forward Kieran Craig (Hawkesbury, Ont.) would pick up a pass in the neutral zone from Aucoin and race almost the entire length of the ice beating Gravel for the overtime win.
