OTTAWA - The Carleton Ravens are 0-2 in 2023 following a 2-1 loss to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday night.
Coming off a tough loss to uOttawa on Friday night, the Ravens and Ridgebacks battled for every inch of ice throughout a tight-checking affair. After a scoreless first period the Ridgebacks opened the scoring 3:25 into the second period when Stephen Calisti fired a slapshot low to the blocker side of Mark Grametbauer.
After giving up four to the Gee-Gees on Friday, the Nova Scotia goalie was solid in goal for the Ravens as they killed five penalty kills on the night. All told, Grametbauer would stop 25 of 27 shots he faced on the night for the Ravens.
Carleton would trail for just over two minutes before Will Collins (Ottawa, Ont.) would score his fourth of the season on the powerplay to send the game tied into the third period.
After killing another penalty to start the third, Carleton battled hard looking to pick up key points against the Ridgebacks. Just over halfway through the third, Ridgebacks leading scorer James White drove hard down the wing centring the puck to Cullen McLean who chipped the puck past Grametbauer for the late lead.
The Ravens would push hard down the stretch carrying much of the play in the last six minutes but couldn't solve Hertz or the Ridgebacks' tight-checking defensive play.
With the loss the Ravens fall to 7-3 at home, having lost two straight to start 2023. The Ravens' next home game is on Sunday, January 22, 2023, when the Ravens host the uOttawa Gee-Gees at TD Place in the annual Colonel By Classic.
