Waterloo, Ont. - It took a full 40 minute effort but the Carleton Ravens women's basketball team were able to start 2023 with a win. The Ravens outscored Waterloo 30-14 in the fourth quarter to lock down a 72-60 victory.
The Ravens (8-2) handed the Warriors their second loss of the season on the back of a an all out performance from veteran Emma Kiesekamp. The Ravens got a bit of everything from Kiesekamp as she filled almost every line of the stat sheet in a busy 34 minutes. Kiesekamp scored 9 points, hauled in 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 blocks and 2 steals without recording a foul.
The Ravens had built a 7-point lead in the first quarter but the Warriors rallied in the third shooting 50% from beyond the arc to put the Waterloo ahead by four. Waterloo's lead would be short lived, as Carleton would come out firing in the fourth quarter shooting 66.7% including 4-for-7 from deep for the victory.
Carleton owned the boards in the fourth, securing 14 of 18 rebounds after losing the battle on the glass in the third.
With the back-and-fourth battle now behind them, Carleton will head down the street to face the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday night.
