OTTAWA - The Carleton Ravens exploded off the opening tip, outscoring Nipissing 37-4 in the first en route to a 90-42 victory on Saturday night.
The win is the twelfth straight for Carleton who hosts the uOttawa Gee-Gees on Wednesday night.
Carleton's offence couldn't miss in the opening quarter jumping out to a 12-0 lead before Nipissing registered a single point. Rookie Kyana Jade Poulin sparked the early offence scoring eight points as she and Kali Pocrnic led all scorers through the opening ten.
Poulin's strong defensive play is what stood out most from the sidelines, starting at forward the young Raven from Brossard, Quebec, was a force generating three steals on the night while scoring a career-high 13 points.
After locking down the Lakers in the first quarter, Carleton settled into an eleven-player rotation that saw ten Raves play five or more minutes in the first half. Outscoring Nipissing 20-14 in the second quarter, the Ravens continued to extend their lead as Jacqueline Urban (Ancaster, Ont.) scored nine points in the quarter.
With their largest single-half output in over a decade in the first half, the Ravens used their depth to build off their 57-18 lead after the break. Teresa Donato (Ottawa, Ont.) and Zerina Duvnjak (Kitchener, Ont.) played key minutes the rest of the way as Carleton continued to carry possession and outscored the Lakers 33-24 in the second half.
