Thunder Bay, Ontario - Maggie McClure has claimed the silver medal at the 2023 Nordiq Canada Ski Nationals.
McClure completed the 30KM college and university championship race across the 4-lap course in 2:00:13 just under two minutes behind the winner Amelia Wells, from the University of Calgary. Raven Katherine Mason was six minutes behind in 6th place while Chloe Ranahan finished in 2:10 for eighth place rounding out the Ravens in the top ten.
Among U20 racers, Kanata's Helen McCulligh finished fourth. On the men's side, Devon Pegrum finished sixth while Darion Dillabaugh and Nathan Hay rounded out the top ten in ninth and tenth edging out teammate Ogen Newcomb by seconds. Jake Littlejohn finished eleventh in the men's U20 race while Isaac Fortin was fourteenth.
McClure's medal rounds out a fantastic week from the Ravens who finished women's sprints in second, third, fifth and sixth places with McClure and teammate Bronwyn Williams claiming the silver and Helen McCulligh and Katherine Mason the bronze. Veterans Emma Holmes and Chloe Ranahan claimed the fifth time while team 'Baby Ravens' Cara Gordon and Bella Mouchet were just 20 seconds behind them in sixth.
On the men's side of the sprints in fourth place came Ravens Ogden Newcomb and Colin Ward with Oliver Bereznai and Devon Pegrum in fifth place. Tristan Laliberte and Jake Littlejohn rounded out the top ten in ninth while Nathan Hay and Darion Dillabaugh finished eleventh.
Earlier in the week, Bronwyn Williams finished third in the long sprint with Maggie McClure in fifth and Helen McCulligh in eighth. Williams also finished 6th in the free technique 10K race. Isaac Fortin was the fastest Raven in the sprints, finishing in 3:01.29, good for fourteenth.
