Burlington, Ont. - Ravens forward Jacqueline Urban has been named OUA Rookie of the Year.
Urban finished the 2022-23 season second in the OUA in rebounds with 238 breaking the Ravens' single-season record previously held by 2014 Rookie of the Year Heather Lindsay. Urban’s powerful first season included an 18-rebound performance against Brock on December 2. Urban was third among Ravens with 594 minutes played while being second in team scoring with 219 points – second most in a single season by a Ravens rookie.
After playing for Team Ontario at the Canada Games this summer, Urban made an instant impact on coach Dani Sinclair's Ravens. Earning the start in 21 of 22 games, Urban quickly established herself as a key piece to a young Ravens team. Playing key minutes alongside veterans Kali Pocrnic and Emma Kiesekamp, Urban fit right into the Ravens' rotation playing 27.0 minutes per game while shooting just under 40% for the season.
A member of Team Ontario at the 2023 Canada Games Urban was twice named Ravens' Athlete of the Week during the 2022-23 regular season.
Urban also earned OUA All Rookie Team honours.
A duo of Ravens guards also received OUA honours with Kali Pocrnic (Oakville, Ont.) and Dorcas Buisa (Gatineau, Que.) being named all stars.
The Ravens engine, Pocrnic earns her second consecutive first team honour. The speedy guard was top ten in U SPORTS in assists and free throws while leading the Ravens with 359 points scored.
Dorcas Buisa stepped into a huge gap in the Ravens rotation and quickly established herself as a key component. Scoring more than double her previous career-high in points with 201, Buisa earned third team honours in a year where she shot 37.6% while playing over 28 minutes per game.
