The women’s basketball team makes their first appearance in the U SPORTS semifinals Saturday afternoon since winning it all in 2018.
Under head coach Dani Sinclair the Ravens have impressed this season, including putting together a 12-game winning streak and a trio of impressive performances in the OUA playoffs.
On Thursday, the Ravens advanced to the semifinals by beating the host CBU Capers in front of a packed Sullivan Fieldhouse. Now the Ravens face the Saint Mary’s Huskies, a team they have only previously faced in preseason games.
While the Ravens did have a taste of the Huskies in the preseason, both teams have drastically changed. The AUS champion Huskies are a deep and gritty team, going 15-5 in conference play before beating UPEI and Acadia in the AUS Championship tournament. Alaina Macmillan scored 20 points in the AUS title game before being one of four Huskies in double-digits Thursday.
The Ravens will need to keep Macmillan and Sophia Widmeyer under wraps to find success.
For Carleton, continued depth on attack will be the key to success. After getting secondary scoring from Teresa Donato in the quarterfinals, the Ravens will look for continued depth if they want to advance to Sunday night.
Donato’s 13 points off the bench helped to steady Carleton as they found a rhythm offensively. With Kali Pocrnic and Dorcas Buisa leading the way with 15 and 20 points, Carleton’s depth in attack was in fine form.
Rookie of the Year Jacqueline Urban was held to just four points on Thursday, but continued to rely on her strength pulling in 14 rebounds.
