OTTAWA, Ontario – The Carleton Ravens are proud to announce David Luong has accepted the role as full-time head coach of the Carleton Ravens women’s rugby program. Luong becomes the program’s first full-time head coach after three years in the part-time role.
Luong is entering his tenth year with Ravens rugby. In 2020, Luong accepted the role of head coach and has since led the program to back-to-back RSEQ bronze medals. Luong holds a 9-3 regular season record and 4-2 post-season record.
Prior to being named head coach, Luong spent six seasons as an assistant coach.
"I'd like to thank Jennifer, Kwesi, and the Athletics department for providing me this opportunity to become the first full-time coach for the Women’s Rugby program at Carleton and for entrusting me with the power to shape the future of women's rugby at the university. This opportunity signifies a powerful shift in recognizing and supporting women's athletics, creating a platform for growth, empowerment, and excellence. I'm excited to continue to build on the success of the program with the added resources to allow us to strive for greatness in becoming a dominate program in USports.”
With funding from the Coaches Association of Ontario, Luong’s new full-time role will add further stability and structure to the program.
“We are extremely excited to have David become a full-time member of our coaching staff as he continues to lead the women’s rugby program moving forward,” said Assistant Direct, High Performance Sport, Kwesi Loney.
“We look forward to continuing to work with David and are thrilled about where he will continue to take this program. David has proven he is a valuable asset for the Ravens program and we trust he will continue to create a positive experience for our student-athletes.”
