Waterloo, Ont. - The Carleton Ravens came close but couldn't overcome the sixth-ranked Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday afternoon falling 20-15 in their 2023 OUA debut.
The Golden Hawks opened the scoring with a pair of Canadian classics in the first quarter earning a rouge and forcing a Ravens safety for an opening 3-0 lead through 15 minutes.
The Ravens and first-time starter Tristan Lefevbre (Calgary, Alta.) found a rhythm in the second quarter, driving the team into the red zone twice and setting up a pair of 14-yard field goals for Brandon Forcier (L'Ange Gardien, Que.). Despite the positives, the Ravens found themselves behind at the half, trailing 10-6.
Forcier and Dawson Hodge exchanged field goals in the third before things opened up in the final quarter. Quinton Scott would score just after the three-minute warning but the Ravens responded quickly as Lefebvre and the offense delivered a 10-play 80-yard touchdown drive. Despite forcing a two-and-out on the next possession Carleton couldn't crack the Golden Hawks defense a second time to complete the comeback.
