MONTREAL - The Carleton Ravens women's rugby team successfully kicked off their 2023 season on Saturday afternoon beating the Montreal Carabins 19-12.
The Ravens' offence got off to a quick start with Brianna Messer (Pembroke, Ont.) scoring twice in the first half. Both Messer's tries capped off a strong push from the Ravens who worked their way along the Carabins tryline before Messer successfully plunged in for the score.
Before the half was over, Joleen Mason (Belleville, Ont.) capped off a beautiful display of passing by the Ravens backs scampering her way into the endzone to for the Ravens' third try of the half.
Carleton would fend off a dangerous push from the Carabins in the second half to protect the lead.
With the win, Carleton now turn their attention to Sunday afternoon when they host the McGill Martlets at TAAG Park.
