OTTAWA - The Carleton Ravens women's hockey team is now 0-2 to start the 2023 season after a difficult 5-0 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
The Ravens started well keeping pace with the Gee-Gees in the first period and staying level in shots on goal at six.
The scoreless tie didn't last long into the second period as Keara Merriman received a feed from behind the Carleton net and wired one past Ravens goaltender Caitlin Whitehead to open the scoring. The Gee-Gees would score again just four minutes later. Just as the Ravens seemed to be gaining some momentum Whitehead would make the save on an odd-numbered rush but had her rebound bounce off a teammate into the net for a 3-0 Gee-Gees lead.
The Ravens couldn't overcome the gap in the third despite outshooting Ottawa 13-8 in the final frame. Alyssa Biesenthal and Florence Lessard each added a goal for the Gee-Gees as they extended the lead to five.
Carleton will look to bounce back when they return to the Ice House for two games next weekend hosting Concordia and McGill at the Carleton Ice House.
