The Carleton Ravens men's basketball team has won three straight following an 80-73 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday night.
A wild battle full of ups and downs, the two teams traded points all evening with Laurentian winning the first quarter 18-16 and the Ravens coming back to take the second by the same score. Tied at 34 at the break, the two teams set themselves up for a wonderful finish. The Ravens trailed by as many as eight in the third quarter before rallying back. Xavier Spencer (Edmonton, Alta.) drove much of the offence for the Ravens, creating from the perimeter while opening up lanes for Noah Horobetz Simpson (Winnipeg, Man.) and Aubrey Dorey-Havens (Vancouver, BC) who combined for 31 points through three quarters.
After Dorey-Havens hit a buzzer-beater three to take a 59-58 lead into the fourth quarter, both teams would exchange leads early in the final 10 minutes. After Ismael Konate fouled out while leading the Voyageurs with 18 points the two teams settled in to grind their way through the final seven minutes.
The Ravens heated up from beyond the arch down the stretch with Augustus Brazdeikis (Oakville, Ont.) and Spencer both hitting big threes while Horobetz Simpson remained strong on the boards.
In the final minute, with the Ravens up 76-72, Horobetz Simpson would be called on a travel under the basket giving Laurentian a second life. Off the timeout, Laurentian would earn their way to the line but Kamil Dia Hantchi would make only the second of two from the line.
Aubrey Dorey-Havens would go 4-4 from the free-throw line down the stretch securing the victory.
