Burlington, Ont. - Ravens head coach Marcelo Plada has been named OUA East Coach of the Year. The award comes in Plada's first season as head coach of the Ravens soccer program.
Joining Plada in receiving OUA honours are first-team all-stars Raphael Garcia, Luca Piccioli and Chloe Doiron. Named to the second team were Mikayla Moser, Omar Darwish and Tareq Hamad.
In his first season as the Ravens head coach, Plada and the Ravens started the season 9-0-0 before finishing 10-1-1 and earning the top spot in the OUA. Plada's formation and style led the Ravens to a league-high 38 goals.
First-team all-stars Raphael Garcia and Luca Piccioli were the catalysts of much of the Ravens offence. Both captains on the Ravens squad, Garcia had 3 goals in 8 assists in the regular season while Piccioli finished just shy of the league lead in points with 9 goals and 6 assists.
Second-year Chloe Doiron led all Ravens women with four goals and six points on the campaign as Carleton hosted a home playoff game for the second consecutive season.
Veteran Mikayla Moser stepped into a larger role with the Ravens this season and made an immediate impact scoring three goals on the campaign. For the men, second-team all-star Tareq Hamad was the Ravens' rock, playing consistently in the centreback position. The veteran is joined on the second team by rookie standout Omar Darwish who proved to be a dangerous part of the Ravens midfield scoring a goal and one assist in his rookie campaign.
