North Bay, Ont. - The Carleton Ravens women's basketball team have won seven straight following an 81-57 win on Saturday night.
The Ravens weathered an impressive first quarter for the host Lakers as Nipissing shot 55.6% from beyond the arch to lead the defending U SPORTS Champions by one after ten. Chantal Piche was 2-2 while Sophie Milner, Dominique Bouchard and Kennedy Joyce all hit first-quarter threes to help Nipissing keep pace.
In the second quarter, Nipissing would cool off to just 28.6% shooting including 1-7 from three-point range as the Ravens pulled ahead by five at the half. While the Lakers cooled down, Kali Pocrnic (Oakville, Ont.) and Jacqueline Urban (Ancaster, Ont.) led the way for Carleton with 8 and 4 points each.
A more familiar Ravens team appeared in the third period with Carleton outscoring Nipissing 26-8 on the back of eight points each for Tatyanna Burke (Winona, Ont.) and Kyana-Jade Poulin (Saint-Bruno, Que.). Not only did Burke and Poulin lead Carleton as the team shot 55% in the quarter while holding the Lakers to 21.4%.
Carleton would continue their pressure in the final ten minutes outscoring Nipissing 15-12 while being led by Hadeza Ismaila (Ottawa, Ont.). The transfer from Ontario Tech had five points in the final quarter to finish the weekend with 15.
Carleton remains on the road next week with three games upcoming on Friday, and Saturday and culminating their 2023 season on Wednesday, December 6 with a trip to Ottawa.
