Chelsea, Que. - It was a strong start to the Carleton Ravens Nordic ski 2023-24 season with several racers earning their way onto the podium at the Candy Cane Cup.
The Carleton Ravens women's Nordic ski team picked up where they left off in 2023 impressing in the opening event of the 2023-24 season. Racing in the 2023 Candy Cane Cup Carleton's women's team dominated day one action finishing with three racers in the top five, including two on the podium as Maggie McClure (Ottawa, Ont.) and Helen McCulligh (Ottawa, Ont.) finished two-three in the sprints. Veteran Colin Ward and rookie Seamus Williams both finished in the top twenty of the men's race.
On day two of the competition, Katherine Mason (Ottawa, Ont.) finished second among university athletes in the senior women's interval start. Mason finished third overall just 10 seconds out of second place. Maggie McClure) finished in sixth while Emma Holmes cracked the CCUNC top 10 with a strong showing that saw them finish twelfth overall.
In Sunday's 10km Classic Final, Maggie McClure finished fourth with Mason and McCulligh finishing less than a minute behind in fourth and fifth. The first-year Williams continued his strong showing as the Ravens' top men's finisher coming in less than two minutes behind in fifteenth.
The Ravens return to competition on January 4th after a short holiday break.
