The Carleton Ravens continued their impressive streak of play at home, beating the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks 82-39 on Friday night.
The Ravens took a 21-point lead in the first quarter and never let up, leading almost wire-to-wire after some even play in the opening minutes.
Carleton’s guard duo of Pocrnic and Donato did the work early scoring a combined 21 points in the opening frame. Kali Pocrnic (Oakville, Ont.) had her way with shots from beyond the arc early on, going 4-for-4 in the quarter, while Teresa Donato (Ottawa, Ont.) went to work on the inside.
Carleton would outscore Laurier 20-10 in the second quarter without a single player scoring more than four points. The Ravens' stingy defence forced the Golden Hawks into tough shots and shooting just 26.7% from the field. At the line, Laurier couldn’t take advantage of their chances either shooting just 1-7.
Donato and Pocrnic returned to work in the third scoring six points each as Kyana-Jade Poulin (Saint-Bruno, Que.) broke out with four points, six rebounds and two assists.
The Ravens owned the glass on Friday night, outrebounding Laurier 51-24. Tatyanna Burke led Carleton. The Winona guard had 14 rebounds along with 14 points for the double-double.
Sierra Peck (Belleville, Ont.) continued to add minutes since returning from injury, the forward played 12 minutes scoring two points and recording 7 rebounds.
Carleton now faces Waterloo on Saturday night. The 11-4 Warriors knocked off Ottawa by seven on Friday.
