Ottawa - The Carleton Ravens women's basketball team started the second half of the season in the win column following a commanding 105-44 victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.
The Ravens showed little rust getting off to an 8-2 start to open Friday’s game. Kyana-Jade Poulin (Saint-Bruno, Que.) led the Ravens early with five points through the opening four minutes. Carleton would continue to pull away throughout the quarter leading by 12 at the end of the opening quarter.
As the second quarter opened Jacqueline Urban (Ancaster, Ont.) quickly pulled the Ravens along scoring 7 points in the opening 90 seconds. By the end of the first half, Urban had racked up 19 points and the Ravens were ahead 64-23.
The Ravens' non-stop offence didn’t let up in the third quarter, halfway through the period Carleton was outscoring Ontario Tech 15-2. Carleton had a steady rotation through the evening with Ottawa’s Teresa Donato putting up 19 on the night including a beautiful dribble and drive midway through the third quarter as Carleton stretched their lead to 68 after 30 minutes.
The Ravens' depth would be displayed in the fourth quarter, as starters accounted for only 11 of 50 minutes while the bench did the rest of the work scoring 12 of the Ravens' 16 points in the quarter. Donate and Tatyana Burke (Wynona, Ont.) each had 4 points and 3 rebounds while Miranda Novarro played 8 minutes for the Ravens recording 2 points and a rebound.
Carleton outscored the Ridgebacks 20-0 on second-chance points while the bench provided 51 points in the victory. For the Ravens, the win was the second time in their last three games where they’ve broken the 100-point mark.
Carleton will be back in action on Saturday night when they put first place in the East on the line against the Queen’s Gaels at 6:00 p.m. The Gaels will enter Saturday’s matchup following a 70-61 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday.
