OTTAWA - A 22-point differential in the third quarter was the difference as the Carleton Ravens women's basketball team downed the visiting Nipissing Lakers 88-53 on Friday night.
The Lakers were resilient in the opening half, clawing back each time Carleton took a lead, but Jacqueline Urban (Ancaster, Ont.) proved to be too much inside scoring 10 points in the opening frame as Carleton finished up 24-16.
The second quarter hummed along with both teams trading points, the Gatineau duo of Dorca Buisa and Oceanne Kounkou led the way with a combined 9 points in the quarter as Carleton held an eight-point lead at the half.
The Ravens came out ready to defend in the third quarter holding the Lakers to just 21.4% shooting. Teresa Donato (Ottawa, Ont.) led the Ravens in the third quarter with 8 points and 3 rebounds. Carleton's bench dominated much of the storyline throughout the game, outscoring the Lakers depth 40-9.
Defensively the Ravens smothered Nipissing generating 13 steals and 28 points off turnovers.
The Ravens are immediately back in action when they host the Laurentian Voyageurs tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m.
