MONTREAL - A three-goal, 27-shot third period put the Citadins on top Friday night as they downed the visiting Carleton Ravens women's hockey team 5-1.
Trailing 1-0 midway through the first period, Julia Mumford chipped the puck around the Citadins defender before going short-side high on Aube Racine to tie the game.
The Ravens would kill off an early second-period penalty and were skating chance-for-chance with Montreal until Jade Picard beat Caitlin Whitehead to retake the lead. Carleton would earn a couple of changes late in the period, but couldn't even the score heading into the third period.
The Citadins would explode out the gate to start the third, scoring twice in the opening three minutes to jump out to a 4-1 lead. Trying to grind their way back into the game, Carleton found themself in penalty trouble for most of the third. After killing off a Shannon McDonald penalty, Cecilia Lopez would find themself in the box for body contact when Jade Picard scored their second of the game to make it 5-1.
Despite killing off another four-minute penalty kill, Carleton couldn't claw back into Friday's matchup losing 5-1.
On the road the Gee-Gees picked up a point in an overtime loss to Concordia pushing them back ahead of Carleton by a point. The two teams now meet on Saturday night at the Ice House.
