The Carleton Ravens women's hockey team's time in the RSEQ ended Friday night with a 2-1 overtime victory over the McGill Martlets. The win finished the Ravens season with 8 wins, one shy of the program record.
Graduating senior Cecilia Lopez opened the scoring for Carleton in the first. Scoring their seventh of the season and eleventh of her two-year career, the Dartmouth transfer and Master of Music student wasted little time scoring 1:30 into the contest. Aioffe Mahaffy earned the assist on the goal, finishing her second season with five points, four off her rookie pace.
Caitlin Whitehead was the story for Carleton for much of the night, stopping 33 of 34 shots faced including 15 in the second period as Carleton carried a 1-0 lead into the third. The Martlets would however get one passed Whitehead on the powerplay midway through the final frame tying the game at one.
Ninety seconds into the overtime period, Lanie Guimond would force a turnover and then tip home an Abigail Byrne point shot for the game-winner. Guimond's goal was her fourth of the year and second in her last three games.
With the win, the Ravens will leave the RSEQ with a 6-3-1 record in their last ten games against McGill.
