OTTAWA - Carleton Ravens women's hockey goaltender Caitlin Whitehead has been named an RSEQ Second Team All-Star.
Whitehead appeared in 22 games for the Ravens, leading the RSEQ in minutes played with 1258 and utilization percentage at 85.35%. The graduate transfer from Ottawa led the league in saves with 654. Whitehead's save total was almost more than the total number of shots faced by the next goaltender, Ottawa's Mahika Sarrazin who faced 658 shots.
In her first season with Carleton, Whitehead posted a 7-13-1 record with two shutouts. Her exceptional play puts her top in the Ravens' record book for saves in a season by more than 50 saves making more saves than shots previously faced by any one Ravens goalie.
While breaking those single-season shot and save records, Whitehead helped the Ravens to keep in the RSEQ playoff race until the bitter end, with the team losing on home ice with one game to play in the season.
Whitehead earned Athlete of the Week honours from McKeen Metro Glebe after stopping 64 of 67 shots faced as the Ravens split a road weekend in early November.
Next season, Whitehead and the Ravens will begin play for the first time in the OUA. The Ravens joined the RSEQ as a varsity team in 2004-2005.
