Being presented for the first time, the Rookie of the Year award is awarded to the student-athlete who displays the highest level of athletic ability during their first year of eligibility inCarleton's interuniversity program.
A defender with the Ravens' women's hockey team, Payton appeared in all 25 games for the Ravens recording a goal and 7 assists good for third on the team in scoring.
Bursting onto the scene in OUA rowing, Madeline Bartek capped a fantastic rookie season with two silver medals at the OUA Championships. Bartek and partner Rosie O'Brien were consistent throughout the season also earning gold and silver the Brock Invitational.
Overcoming injury early in her varsity career, Ember Warren finally made her Ravens debut in 2023 appearing in 5 of 6 games for the Ravens. Warren was a steadying presence among the Ravens forwards averaging over 60 minutes a game.
A regular in the Ravens starting eleven, Ava Mills appeared in all twelve games for Carleton in 2023, starting 11 times. The Belle River, Ontario, product quickly showed the poise of a player with several League One caps to her name when she scored the game-winning goal over TMU in mid-October.
