OTTAWA (May 12, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens women's basketball team is the 2024 FISU America 3x3 Champions. The Ravens earned a berth in the 2024 FISU University World Cup in Xiamen, China this November with a thrilling overtime defeat of the defending world champions.
At the FISU America tournament in Cipolletti, Argentina, Carleton faced a talented team from ITESM Monterrey (Monterrey, Mexico) in the finals. The Ravens trailed by three in the final minute before forcing overtime. In the overtime, Dorcas Buisa (Gatineau, Que.) and Jacqueline Urban (Ancaster, Ont.) scored back-to-back for the win.
Carleton advanced to the finals with a decisive victory over last year's FISU America's runners-up from ITESM Toluca, (Toluca, Mexico). Carleton's balanced offence was a true team effort throughout the tournament as Ottawa's Teresa Donato and Montreal's Kyana-Jade Poulin rounded out the Carleton line-up.
After a 1-1 record in the round robin, Carleton rebounded from a tight 21-20 loss on Saturday morning to defeat the representatives from Chile in the quarterfinals.
The back-to-back U SPORTS champions will now return to Ottawa where the team will set their sights on the 2024-25 U SPORTS season slated to begin this fall.
