BELFAST (Aug. 30, 2024) - Ravens rookie Félix Bédard (Laterrière, Que.) had a goal and an assist in his Ravens preseason debut but it wasn't enough as the Carleton Ravens fell 8-2 to the Belfast Giants on Friday evening at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Ireland.
After arriving in Dublin early Friday morning, the young Ravens squad found themselves behind 3-0 after 20 minutes despite fantastic play from Tye Austin (Pembroke, Ont.)
The Ravens would split the second period, coming away with a goal from Oliver Castleman (Ottawa, Ont.) but still behind by three after 40 minutes. Castleman took advantage of a beautiful backhand pass from Bédard who picked up a loose puck after Alex Johnston (Stittsville, Ont.) forced the turnover below the goalline.
The Giants came out strong to start the third period, scoring almost immediately to open the third period. Carleton would respond off the rush as Bédard would whack home a rebound over a sprawling Thomas McCollum to make it 5-2.
The Ravens travel legs would become a factor the rest of the way as turnovers allowed the Giants to put the game out of reach, extending the lead to 8-2 with just over three minutes to play.
Tye Austin made 47 saves for the Ravens in the loss looking fantastic in the losing effort.
Carleton will look to fight off any jetlag tomorrow afternoon when they return to action against the Alberta Golden Bears on Giants TV.
