OTTAWA (Aug. 31, 2024) - The Windsor Lancers wiped out a 15-0 Ravens lead capping off their comeback with a walk-off 55-yard field goal to stun the Carleton Ravens 18-15 on Saturday afternoon.
In front of an excited move-in crowd of over 1,200 the Carleton Ravens made up for a slow first quarter by building an 8-0 first-half lead. Brandon Forcier (L'Ange Gardien, Que.) provided most of the Ravens offence, scoring on 35 and 36-yard field goals. The second kick, Forcier's 40th of his career, moved him ahead of Jeff Morris for sole possession of second all-time as a Raven.
Ravens quarterback Elijah Barnes (Ancaster, Ont.) had an explosive start to the second half, capping off a 5-play, 69-yard drive with a laser beam over the middle to Kaseem Ferdinand who ran the last 20 yards after the catch for the touchdown.
The Ferdinand touchdown would be the last score of the night for the Ravens as Windsor took over the contest. Switching quarterbacks, Corson Roy came in for the Lancers and instantly put life into the attack. Roy would immediately lead an 8 play drive to the house, plunging the final yard in himself.
Halfway through the fourth, Corson would return to work, leading a 92-yard drive that took just six plays and 3:35 off the clock as the Lancers cut the lead to two. Then he'd throw a dart into the endzone catching Colby Ginn for the 2-point conversion to tie the game.
The Lancers' defence would eliminate any chance the Ravens had of gaining field positioning during the next few minutes, even an interception by MegaWatt Niriyagiro (Gatineau, Que.) couldn't jump-start the Ravens.
Forced to punt in the game's final minutes, the Ravens turned the ball over to the Lancers, and Christopher John would make them pay. On second and ten, John would find a hole and take off for 22 yards moving the ball to the Carleton 48. From there, it was all Brady Lister.
With time running out on the clock, Lister made no mistake, carrying the uprights and breaking the hearts of the Ravens fans.
With the loss, the Ravens fall to 0-2 and now prepare to head on the road next Saturday when they face Western at 5:00 PM.
