OTTAWA (Sept. 18, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens women's rugby team fell to 0-2-1 on the season Wednesday following a 65-5 loss to the #3 Ottawa Gee-Gees.
Ottawa scored early into the first half, turning their first possession of the afternoon into points before stealing a Carleton scrum in the 12th minute before flushing out wide for their second score of the afternoon.
A Gee-Gees knock-on off the ensuing kickoff gave Carleton a scrum near the 22 which they quickly won. Sierra Hasse (St. Lazarre, Que.) broke loose of an 8-pick before offloading to Zoey O'Connor (Grafton, Ont.) for the try.
Despite strong defensive play after scoring, the Ravens would hang on, allowing Ottawa to score two more points for a 22-5 deficit at the half.
The Gee-Gees started the second half emphatically, scoring early and then turning their own pick-and-go into a score just eight minutes into the half. Ottawa would tack on another try in the 53rd minute before both teams made major substitutions to escape the glaring sun.
The loss is Carleton's second straight at home. This season, the Ravens have lost to the #3 Gee-Gees and #5 Rouge-et-Or. Carleton doesn't have to look far for a chance to bounce back, they travel to McGill on Sunday to face the Martletts.
