OTTAWA (Sept. 22, 2024) - For the second straight game the Carleton Ravens men's soccer team was forced to settle for a 1-1 draw. On Sunday afternoon the Ravens scored first but TMU was quick to battle back to even before holding on for the draw.
The Ravens carried the majority of the play in the first half, though mainly in the middle third of TAAG Park. Under strong pressure from the visitors, Carleton was able to generate few chances against Dante Ferraro. Carded three times in the opening 32 minutes Carleton was physical but couldn't turn the intensity into many scoring chances.
Ousman Maheshe has one of Carleton's best chances in the first half but fired the ball overtop of the posts. When Carleton did generate chances Ferraro was exceptional all afternoon, making key saves as the Ravens fired 11 shots his way.
The Ravens finally broke the deadlock in the 56' when Omar Darwish one a ball into the middle of the field to Maheshe. Maheshe then struck a high volley that led Eric Yoseke behind the defender and the Ottawa attacker made no mistake hammering his first touch through a stunned Ferraro.
The Bold didn't waste much time coming back. Just 16 minutes later, Aidan Hugo hammered a ball from his 21-yard line which landed in the box at the foot of Javontae Layne who tapped it past a sprawling Tyler David to draw level.
Carleton would generate the majority of the chances in the final 20 but their best chance to pull ahead was thwarted when Maheshe and Adam N'Goran both attempted to strike a loose ball in the box sending it wide.
Carleton won't have to wait long for a rematch of both of this weekend's draws when they face Toronto and TMU next weekend in Toronto.
