OTTAWA (Sept. 6, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens men's soccer team improved to 3-0 on Friday night with a decisive 6-0 victory over the visiting Queen's Gaels.
The Ravens offence showed no signs of slowing down in the home opener, kicking things off in the 35th minute with a goal from Ousman Maheshe (Edmonton, Alta.) The Ravens, and Maheshe, never looked back. The impressive law student made a screaming home debut scoring three times and adding a brilliant assist on Caden Tomy's first of the season.
The Ravens pestered the Gaels throughout the opening half with an impressive pace and a strength in attack that has become akin to the Marcelo Plada era. Less than 15 minutes after scoring, Maheshe made a brilliant play to keep the ball in bounds for Tomy's goal. Then, just before the half, Eric Yoseke (Ottawa, Ont.) unleashed a missile from 24 yards out to put the Ravens ahead by three.
Maheshe's second of the night came in the 73' when Seddik Sahraoui (Ottawa, Ont.) made a beautiful little pass into the box to set up the streaking rookie. Marek Achadinha (Vancouver, BC) would get a header on a corner to make it five to nothing before Maheshe would hammer home a free kick for the hat trick.
Carleton was impressed throughout the evening, and several youngsters brought the crowd alive. Despite poor weather, the Ravens welcomed over 600 supporters to TAAG Park to open their season.
The Ravens return to action on Sunday afternoon when they face RMC in the second game of a doubleheader.
