OTTAWA (Sept. 20, 2024) - After falling behind early the Carleton Ravens women's soccer team battled back to earn a thrilling 2-2 draw against UofT.
After a first half that was played mostly in the middle third of the park, the Varsity Blues broke the deadlock in added time when Hannah Chown put a penalty kick off the right post and in.
Trailing by one the Ravens quickly conceded again to open the second half before finding their footing. After finding their own, Lauren Illman (Whitby, Ont.) played a long chip to Mikayla Moser (Ajax, Ont.) who sprinted past the defender before sliding a clinical finish into the left side of the net.
Carleton would finish their comeback only a few minutes later when Quinn Snell (Courtice, Ont.) got her head on a bouncing corner and past Julianna Ottonni for the draw.
The Ravens had a short weekend schedule and will now turn their attention to next weekend when they travel to Toronto to face TMU ahead of a rematch with the Blues.
"That's been the motto of our team the last two years, trying to be resilient," explained coach Oliveri. "Not everything is going to go our way during a season, but you've got to find ways to battle back. And, all credit to the girls, they found a way to battle back."
"There was a lot going against them today and they scratched and clawed their way back into a game with like thirty minutes to play - they did a great job of bouncing back today."
"It's a tough weekend for us going away," said coach Oliveri of next weekend's schedule. "It's the second time in a row we've had to play the same team twice, almost back to back. It's always tough on the road to try and accumulate points but we'll do the best we can."
