OTTAWA (Sept. 15, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens women's soccer team made the short drive to Kingston splitting a difficult road weekend and collecting three points.
Knowing just how difficult it can be to play at the Navy Yards in Kingston, the Carleton Ravens wasted very little time getting the offence started on Saturday afternoon en route to a 4-0 win over RMC.
After having had a major impact the previous weekend, Ravens midfielder Ana Itoafa (Fredericton, NB) was finally rewarded in the seventh minute with the opening goal on Carleton's fifth shot. Firing eight shots in the first half, the Ravens would continue to fill the net as Quinn Snell (Courtice, Ont.) and Lauren Illman (Whitby, Ont.) added goals in the first half.
Sydney Attwell (Barrie, Ont.) would score the Ravens' lone goal of the second half to put the finishing touches on the victory. Chloe Lachance-Soulard (Ottawa, Ont.) faced only one shot, stopping Bellarose Ternes in the 76th minute to preserve the clean sheet.
After a brilliant draw at home last weekend, the Carleton Ravens battled hard on Sunday afternoon despite falling 1-0 to the Queen's Gaels.
For a Ravens team poised to challenge the best in the OUA, the opening thirty minutes was a great display of the team's strength and grit. Holding a strong backline the Ravens kept the majority of the first half to the pitches middle third, trading corners and shots throughout the opening 30 minutes. After a hydration break in the thirtieth minute, the Ravens forced Kristin Tynan to make three saves over the last 15 minutes of the half to preserve the scoreless draw through the break.
In the second half, the Gaels through everything they had at Carleton. Generating four corners and taking a half dozen shots, the Gaels finally got the bounce they wanted when Marissa Gravel scored on a second rebound to break the deadlock. While Carleton would give up some of their strong defensive lines to push for a tie, they quickly generated a few shots toward Tynan. Though Carleton couldn't beat Tynan, the story of the afternoon was keeper Chloe Lachance-Soulard who made four saves in the final fourteen minutes and seven on the afternoon.
"It’s always tough to play the same teams in consecutive weekends," reflected head coach Dom Oliveri. "On Saturday, the team played well and got a good result against RMC in some difficult conditions."
"The game today was always going to be a difficult one, Queens is always tough to beat at home," he reflected following the contest. "Although it was a good performance, we missed a few important details which Queens took advantage of."
With a positive weekend for the program now behind them, the Ravens will return home on Friday night when they face Toronto at 4 PM.
