OTTAWA (OCT. 23, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens men's soccer team's hopes of repeating as OUA champion fizzled out in extra time on Wednesday night falling 2-1 to the TMU Bold. After coming from behind to tie the game in the second half, Aidan Hugo's free kick goal in the second half of extra time was too much for the Ravens to come back from again.
The first half was a physical affair with both teams battling for every inch of the pitch. The Ravens generated a few chances but the defence that shined brightest. Tyler David made a fantastic diving save on a fast-breaking TMU rush midway through the half before the play was called offside. And then, late in the half, Brady Curkovic made a beautiful backtracking slide tackle to clear away a breakaway opportunity.
The Bold would open the scoring early in the second half when Jevontae Layne's shot travelled back across the goal and past a diving David for the lead. Carleton didn't trail for long. Caden Tomy quickly pushed the Ravens back on attack finding Ousman Maheshe in the middle of the box. With three defenders around him Maheshe made two fantastic turns before hammering the ball home to tie the game.
The two teams would trade opportunities before the end of the half but found themselves tied at full-time. After a relatively quiet first half of extra time Eric Yoseke would strike a left footer off the crossbar which seemed to awaken the Bold attack. After coming back down the field the Bold drew a found 19-yards from goal and TMU's lone substitute Aidan Hugo made no mistake placing the kick into the bottom left corner.
Despite a free kick in the 133rd minute the Ravens couldn't draw level.
The loss marks the second consecutive 2-1 loss to TMU in post-season play, after falling to the Bold in 2022.
