OTTAWA (Oct. 20, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens 2024 season finished 2-5 on Saturday afternoon following a 44-24 loss to the Laurier Golden Hawks.
Ryan Speight caught a 5-yard pass from Taylor Elgersma early in the first quarter to open the scoring. The touchdown capped off an opening 77-yard drive. The two teams would trade strong defensive possessions for the next fifteen minutes before Laurier would strike again.
Five minutes into the second, Laurier would then turn a Carleton fumble into more points as Dawson Hodge hit a 19-yard chip shot for the 10-0 lead just 5:48 into the contest. Carleton wouldn't back down from the U SPORTS #2 Golden Hawks, as Brandon Forcier (L'Ange Gardien, Que.) got the Ravens on the board with a 39-yard field goal to cap off a 6-play 39-yard drive.
Laurier struck back quickly as Elgersma found Ethan Jordan over the middle for a 74-yard major. The catch-and-run touchdown seemed to put Carleton flat on their backs, but the Ravens didn't quit. Carleton would respond quickly when Elijah Barnes connected over Frederick Hachey who broke loose for a massive 97-yard touchdown reception.
Laurier didn't waste any time pulling away from the Ravens again. On the ensuing drive, Elgersma would engineer a 7-play, 96-yard drive in just 41 seconds to put Laurier ahead 24-10 at the half.
After opening the second half with an 82-yard touchdown drive that ended with Hachey's second touchdown of the afternoon, the Golden Hawks would flex their muscle. Laurier would score three straight times blowing the doors off the Ravens' defence before Joey Marcotte (Quebec City, Que.) put Carleton back on the board late.
Brandon Forcier would add a rouge before Dawson Hodge capped off the afternoon with a short field goal.
