OTTAWA (Oct 20, 2024) - Standout rookie Ousman Maheshe had a hat trick as the Carleton Ravens beat Laurentian 4-1 on Saturday night advancing to the second round of the OUA men's soccer playoffs.
Maheshe opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with a brilliant on-touch volley of a leaping pass from Darren Bouaziz. The defending Carleton Athlete of the Week, Bouaziz, bumped a long volley over the Laurentian defender to Maheshe in the box. Maheshe didn't hesitant smashing his volley past the Voyageurs keeper.
The Ravens would extend their lead in the second half as the Ravens quickly worked the ball up the left side of the pitch with Adrian Vranjkovic chipping the ball into Maheshe who took two shots for the goal.
Less than five minutes later Mohamed Bouzidi would flick off a back-heel pass to Moses Kafeero at the top of the box and the all-star defender unloaded his first touch into the top corner.
Laurentian would cut into the lead making it 3-1 before Maheshe would put things away with his third of the night. With extra time on the clock, Bouzidi would flick a volley over his head to a streaking Maheshe who spin a shot off the inside of his right foot curling it inside the left post.
The Ravens now advance to Wednesday's second round where they'll travel to Downsview Park and face the TMU Bold.
