OTTAWA (October 26, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens men's basketball team got their 2024-25 season off to a hot start with a pair of double-digit wins during Opening Weekend presented by Hobin Architecture.
The Ravens wasted little time flexing some offensive muscle on Friday night scoring 31 points in the third quarter to pull away from the Western Mustangs. The offensive explosion helped the Ravens to a 97-75 victory. Not to be out done, Carleton's defence started Saturday night on full display starting on a 16-point run while pulling away for a 96-66 win over the Windsor Lancers.
The Ravens Friday night was a team effort with Emmanuel Milon and Augustus Brazdeikis scoring double-digit points. While the two Ravens had big nights, their efforts were overshadowed by the hot shooting of Daniel Smith. Smith's corner three's late in the second quarter put the Ravens in the lead while his third-quarter threes hit like a dagger to the Mustangs. Going 5-7 from beyond the arc after opening the night with a miss, the Winnipeg guard joined the Milon, Brazdeikis and rookie AJ Osman (Ottawa, Ont.) in scoring new career highs.
Milon had 8 points in the third quarter while eight Ravens scored as Carleton put up 31 on the Mustangs.
It was more of the same from Carleton on Saturday. A 16-0 run after giving up the game's opening point saw Carleton build a lead that they quickly made insurmountable. The Ravens would lead the rest of the way with 34 bench points and 18 second chance points.
Carleton owned the key throughout the evening scoring 24 points in the paint to the Lancers' 12. Despite the dominance inside the Ravens' deep threes continued to be a story as they shot 51.6% from beyond the arc, scoring 48 points from the land beyond. Ottawa's Domac Domac was the most dangerous, going 4-5 from deep, while Brazdeikis and Xavier Spencer (Edmonton, Alta.) both hit a trio of threes.
The Ravens went 30-58 from beyond the arc over the two-game weekend clipping just under 52% from downtown. After leading the OUA in rebounds last year, Carleton isn't looking to release that crown anytime soon, opening the season outrebounding their opponents 40-26 and 40-24.
Carleton heads back on the road before returning home on Sunday, November 10 to face the York Lions.
