OTTAWA - Ava Mills' 90th minute winner Sunday afternoon gave the Carleton Ravens an important split on their weekend tour of Toronto.
On Saturday afternoon a very back-and-forth game between the Ravens and TMU Bold saw Carleton push much of the possession but come out on the wrong side of a 1-0 result. Despite peppering Elisa Paolucci with shots Carleton were unable to capitalize on their four first half shots and were level through the opening 45.
The Bold would take the lead when Lisamarie Arangio scored in the 54th minute. Carleton would ramp up the pressure in the second half but Paolucci made a spectacular diving save to turn the Ravens away.
Bouncing back, Carleton travelled across town for a difficult contest against the Varsity Blues on Sunday. Toronto came out firing in the first half launching eight shots towards Chloe Lachance-Soulard's goal with five on target. The Ravens hung on throughout the half, battling hard to keep Toronto at bay and their patience would pay off.
After a relatively quiet second half, Salena Devellis found Ava Mills on the edge of the 18-yard box in added time. Mills made no mistake knocking down the ball and making no mistake hammering a one-touch strike into the back of the cage.
Splitting the weekend the Ravens keep pace with the top of the OUA table, only two points back on TMU for fourth and one up on Toronto in fifth.
The Ravens welcome the top seed Ottawa Gee-Gees to TAAG Park on Saturday afternoon for a pre-Panda clash. The Gee-Gees (8-1) thumped Nipissing (5-0) and Ontario Tech (4-1) last weekend.
