Ravens soccer first-year player Molly Owen was recently rewarded the Ontario Soccer MilkUP Future Leaders Award for the West region.
A member of Cambridge Soccer since the age of 6, Owen is an official, club coach and community volunteer. A mentor for young girls in the Cambridge community, and a volunteer with the club's summer camps, Owen was the Athlete of the Year and team MVP for both varsity soccer and field hockey during her time at Monsignor Doyle C.S.S.S.
Recognizing that everyone plays a role in building their communities, Owen is proud to have given back in her hometown. "It's been a big opportunity for me and it's been very special," she explained. "I'm born and raise there, so getting to provide that to the younger girls has been super helpful for me. But also on-and-off the field getting to show them what it means to be a girl in soccer has been super special."
Having participated in the 2022 Ontario Provincial Excel Trials the Cambridge United League One and Ravens midfielder is a leader by nature. Prior to joining Carleton she was the Reserve Women's captain in Cambridge and won numerous awards for leadership across soccer, field hockey and badminton. An honour roll student, Owen chose Carleton in part because of the culture of caring and community that has been established.
Those mentors now exist for Owen at Carleton with the team's senior group. "The girls here have been super welcoming, they've been so amazing, and always so uplifting and supportive but we have such a great culture of accountability which is exactly what I wanted from a program."
