OTTAWA (October 20, 2024) - The Ravens Women's Rowing Team captured gold in the Collegiate Women's Four at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, MA on Sunday. The historic Head of the Charles is the largest three-day regatta in the world, amassing hundreds of thousands of spectators on the riverbanks and bridges of Boston and Cambridge, to watch over 12,000 Olympic to novice competitors each year.
Our Ravens (Abby Dyer, Klaudija Krisjane, Hayley Murray, Megan Elekes, and Jack Pankratz (c)), continue to get stronger ahead of this weekend's OUA Championships. The boat finished 37 seconds ahead of the 2022 winner, Lafayette, for a clear and dominant victory. Due to the time-trial racing format, Carleton started 3rd, impressing spectators by passing 2nd position, Clemson, going into the first turn, and then leader, Florida Tech, by the 2 mile mark. Overtaking in the top of the field is impressive; making up a 30-second gap to pass first even more so.
Carleton’s previous best result in this event was second place in 2016, whose athletes went on to represent Canada at the World University and World Rowing Championships. For graduating athletes Abby Dyer and Megan Elekes, this marks their third time competing in this event, coming home with 6th and 4th place finishes previously.
The women's team continues to improve on their times and cohesion, refusing to relinquish the top of the podium. The Ravens women’s four has finished first in all four pre-championship competitions this season, a first for the rowing program at Carleton. They turn now to St. Catharines for one final race of the season.
