Welland, Ont. (October 27, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens Rowing team brought home three silver medals at this year’s OUA Rowing Championships, in the Men’s Lightweight Single, Women’s Lightweight Single, and Women’s Coxed Four.
After a dominant win in his heat, Alex Ladage (Kanata, Ont.) came home with the silver and a time of 7:18.14, finishing only four seconds behind Brock athlete and National Team Rower Stephen Harris in the Varsity Men’s Lightweight Single.
Rosie O’Brien (Ottawa, Ont.) also won her heat of the Varsity Women’s Lightweight Single in the morning, and with a time of 8:03.14 in the final, took silver in a tight race for second place, beating Western in third by four seconds.
The Varsity Women’s Coxed Four consisting of rowers Abby Dyer, Klaudija Krisjane, Hayley Murray, Megan Elekes, and coxswain Jack Pankratz, wrapped up their impressive season with a silver medal at the OUA Championships and a time of 7:15.29, improving upon their bronze from last year in the event. With a strong showing in the heats, the four narrowly missed the gold in an exciting final race with Queen’s, the overall banner winners for the Women’s title.
The Men’s and Women’s Pairs both placed fourth in the finals, after both coming in second in their respective heats. These were the last races of the season for Men’s Pair partners Aidan Millar (Canmore, Alta.) and Ethan Doherty (Ottawa, Ont.), while the Women’s Pair of Klaudija Krisjane (Riga, Lat.) and Abby Dyer (Ottawa, Ont.) will go on to represent Carleton in the event at the Canadian University Rowing Championships next weekend.
The Men’s team also finished 7th in the Varsity Men’s Coxed Four, 8th in the Varsity Men’s Double, and 9th in the Varsity Men’s Single.
For overall team standings, the men's and women’s teams both placed tenth.
A small contingent of Ravens will be wrapping up their season next weekend in Victoria, BC. Representing Carleton at the Canadian University Rowing Championships are Alex Ladage, Rosie O’Brien, Kendra Hurtubise, Abby Dyer, and Klaudija Krisjane. Ladage will be racing the Lightweight and Open Men’s Single, O’Brien and Hurtubise in the Lightweight Women’s Single and Women’s Single respectively, and together in the Women’s Double. Krisjane and Dyer will row the Women’s Pair.
