OTTAWA (Oct 20, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens came painfully close in a pair of losses to Top 10 opponents over the weekend falling 3-1 to #4 Guelph and 3-2 to #6 Toronto.
The Ravens led Guelph 1-0 on Friday night after Hayden Serniuk continued her hot start to her first OUA campaign with her third goal. The Ravens would carry the lead into the second after a fairly even opening 20.
When Carleton did falter in the second, rookie goaltender Kaitlin Langille was there to answer the bell, the first year Raven made several 10-bell saves against the surging Gryphons. Carleton held on, but a small defensive zone breakdown allowed Guelph to tie the game.
In the third, the Gryphons would prove to be just too much for Carleton scoring just seconds into the third to take the lead. They'd double their lead minutes later when Teghan McCrae scored on the power play to take the 3-1 lead.
The Ravens wasted little time bouncing back against Toronto on Saturday evening. Rookie Olwen Jones found herself alone in front and buried the opening goal midway through the first for an early lead. For Jones, it's her second goal in the first two weeks of the season.
Carleton would carry the lead into the second period before the Varsity Blues tied it up. Just six minutes later, Carleton would retake the lead when Sydney Berta found quiet space trailing the rush and hammered one past Carlee Vance for the 2-1 lead.
The Varsity Blues would show their pedigree in the third, firing 18 shots at Langille. Ashley Delahey would score twice, once with less than three minutes to play erasing Carleton's lead. The Ravens would push hard with the goalie out, but couldn't put a third past Vance who stood tall in the Toronto goal making 29 saves for the win.
