OTTAWA (Oct. 13, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens women's hockey team made their OUA debut over Thanksgiving Weekend earning three of a possible four points.
The Ravens wasted little time announcing their arrival to the conference on Friday night beating Brock 5-2 before taking the Western Mustangs to a shootout on Saturday.
Hayden Serniuk scored the Ravens first OUA goal just four minutes into the action on Friday night. Wide open in the slot, Serniuk unloaded a one-timer past Ava Cruikshank for the 1-0 lead.
Brock would score twice on the power play in the second period to take a 2-1 lead before the Ravens showed their depth. Justina Beard scored midway through the second to tie the game at two. Four minutes later, Payton Miller would put the Ravens back ahead with a wrist shot through a crowd. The Ravens never looked back after taking the lead. In the third, Miller would score on another power play wrister from the point before Nicole Hunter's wrist shot from just outside the blueline beat Cruikshank for the 5-2 win.
Looking to establish themselves as a contender in the OUA, the Ravens fell behind early in the first period to the visiting Western Mustangs. Unwilling to lay down, the Ravens battled back in the second with Olwen Jones scoring late in the second period to tie the game.
The Mustangs would pull ahead again in the third period when Leah Barnard beat rookie goaltender Caitlin Langille for the lead. Trailing late in the game Hayden Serniuk went bar down on the short side off a beautiful pass from Aoiffe Mahaffy to tie the game with 37 seconds remaining.
In the seventh round of the shootout, Adeline Kristoff would finally break the deadline scoring the game-winner for the Mustangs.
The Ravens (1-0-1) return to action on Friday night when they host two of the OUA's top sides in Guelph and Toronto.
