OTTAWA (October 26, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens continue to battle for every inch in the OUA's East Division splitting their first Southern swing in the conference over the weekend. The Ravens were shootout winners on Friday at Western before falling 4-1 on Saturday afternoon to Windsor.
Elizabeth Gauthier opened the scoring for the Mustangs midway through the second period on Friday but the Ravens were quick to respond, scoring just five minutes later to tie the game. The Ravens' opening goal came as Hayden Serniuk (Burlington, Ont.) won a battle along the wall sending the puck back to the point. Though the point shot was blocked, Aoiffe Mahaffy hammed the loose puck on net and Anya Misner buried the rebound to tie things up.
The two teams traded chances in the third, with Carleton killing off three Western power plays before the game headed to overtime. After the extra seven minutes solved nothing, the game was off to a shootout. Rookie goaltender Kaitlin Langille continued her strong play, holding the fort through four rounds of the shootout before Sydney Berta won it for the Ravens.
It was a reversal of fortunes for the Ravens on Saturday afternoon. Despite carrying the play for most of the first period the Ravens found themselves behind after twenty. The Ravens killed off back-to-back penalties early in the second but still found themselves behind by two after forty despite outshooting the Lancers through two periods.
Maggi Dewolf-Russ made it 3-0 for Windsor before Julia Mumford scored her first of the season for the Ravens. Assisting on Mumford's goal was Olwen Jones who now has five points in six games to start her OUA career.
The Ravens return home next weekend for a pair of games at the Ice House when York (Friday) and Nipissing (Saturday) visit the Ice House.
