The long wait is finally over for the Ravens women's hockey team. In 2023, they announced they would move to the OUA for the 2024-25 season.
On Friday night head coach Stacey Colarossi's team drops the puck on a new era for the program with a young and hungry roster eager to prove themselves against new competition.
After Meara Ryan and Cecilia Lopez graduated last season, the Ravens will be looking at a new crop of forwards to carry the load. Hayden Serniuk will look to improve on her season, having been second on the Ravens with nine points. Justina Beard and Aoife Mahaffy will look to increase their production from a year ago. An impressive class of rookies including local forwards Vicky Kay and Olwen Jones and Calgary Fire product Shae Laprade will join the Ravens returnees.
On the blueline, five returning Ravens are joined by Waterloo transfer Olivia Parkinson and Calgary Fire defender Olivia Oosterbroek. The Ravens backend is a mix of size and skill with three defenders over 5'8" and offensive upside from the likes of Payton Miller. Miller's 7 assists last season led all Ravens defenders.
In goal, the Ravens will turn to the duo of Jenna Goertzen and rookie Kaitlyn Langille. In Goertzen, the Ravens have a second-year goalie out of Winnipeg. Langille is a first-year joining the Ravens from the Action Benefits Penguins in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
