OTTAWA (October 5, 2024) - Despite a valiant effort the Carleton Ravens women's soccer team took a difficult 1-0 loss to Ottawa on Saturday.
After giving up a chance in the opening minutes, the Carleton Ravens played right along side the #2 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees throughout Saturday's first half. Lauren Illman would have the Ravens best chance of the half, stepping into a loose ball at the top of the penalty area and sending a screamer off the side of the netting. With the 40th minute chance behind them, the Ravens carried a scoreless draw into the break.
Ottawa showed their form to start the second half, exploding on the attack as Jenna Matsukubo's cross found Cassandra Provost in the box and the Gee-Gees prolific goal scorer made no mistake heading the ball against the grain.
Trailing by one the Ravens would empty the taking bringing on Ava Mills to push for an equalizer. Mills immediately had an impact creating two quality chances in the box but couldn't beat Cassidy Joslin.
"We had a plan coming in and the players executed it perfectly" explained Ravens head coach Dom Oliveri. "At the end of the day, I thought we played really well against the number two team in the country."
With the loss, the Ravens now sit behind Toronto in 6th but remain 6 points up on Ontario Tech while the Ridgebacks retain a game in hand.
