OTTAWA (Oct 20, 2024) - Almost 48 hours after their first-round playoff game began at Queen's on Friday, the Carleton Ravens season came to an end on Sunday with a 2-0 loss to the Gaels.
After beginning at 6:30 PM on Friday, the Ravens and Gaels played 57 minutes before a technical failure caused the lights at Richardson Stadium to turn off. Unable to turn the lights back on the Ravens would be forced to travel home and back ahead of resuming the match on Sunday.
On Friday, the Gaels took a 1-0 lead when Mattson Strickler scored in the 37th minute. The two teams played a rather even twenty minutes after Strickler's goal before putting the contest on hold until Sunday.
Picking things up in the fifty-seventh minute Sunday afternoon, Carleton needed to work quickly if they wanted to level the match. A desperate Ravens team had the first three shot attempts of the afternoon but they were all blocked by Gaels defenders.
Then, in added time, the Gaels put the exclamation mark on the Ravens' season when Brinley Bjornson banked a shot from the top of the box of the left post and in for the brace.
