OTTAWA (Nov. 21, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens continued their hot streak on Wednesday night downing the #3 ranked UQTR Patriotes 2-1 at the Colisee. The win is the Ravens' fourth in a row and brings their road record to .500.
Ravens transfer Steven Bacovsky was the story on Wednesday night. The Calgary netminder was spectacular from start to finish stopping 15 shots in the first period as the Ravens jumped out to a 2-0 lead. "[Steven] Bacovsky played very well tonight," said Ravens' coach Mark Cavallin. "He gave us a chance to win right from the start."
Early in the first Félix Bédard (Laterrierre, Que) put a spinning backhand pass from below the goal line right on to the stick of Alex Johnston who snapped home his seventh of the season. The Ravens would add another late in the first when Reese Belton (Winnipeg, Man.) forced a turnover right onto the stick of Nick McCarry. The third-year forward out of Calgary stepped around Charles-Antoine Lavalle and roofed it short side for the eventual game winner.
It was a surprisingly disciplined game for a Carleton-UQTR clash at the Colisee which played into the Ravens hands as they were able to settle into their systems and play a complete team game through the final two periods. The Ravens killed off a Pats power play in the second and again in the third before UQTR finally got on the board.
Despite the pressure from the hosts, including 1:50 played with the goalie pulled, Bacovsky and the Ravens stood strong to pick up their first win against a ranked opponent this season.
The Ravens now return home on Sunday night when they look to extend their streak to five games as they host the #7 McGill Redbirds. It's Engineering Night presented by Black & McDonald and it's also a Toonie Sunday, with all post-secondary students just $2.
