OTTAWA - It's a relatively quiet weekend around Carleton with only a single double-header on the home schedule. With convocation in the Fieldhouse on Saturday, Carleton basketball host York Sunday night while women's and men's hockey travel the 401.
It will be a special Sunday night double-header at the Nest when the Ravens welcome York to the Nest. The 4-0 women's and men's teams will both look to extend their winning streaks on the first Toonie Sunday of the season.
Students from first-year to grad school can join The Flock in the student section on Sunday night for just $2.
At 2-0, the Lions come to Ottawa after a having a bye week in just the second week of the OUA season. Coming off home wins over Laurier and Ontario Tech, the Lions face Ottawa Saturday before coming into the Nest. The Lions and Ravens projects to be a battle on the glass with York averaging 31 defensive rebounds per game for tops in the OUA while Carleton's +16.5 is the best rebound margin in the conference.
Offensively, Carleton and York have been two of the highest scoring teams in the OUA through two weeks, setting up a contest you don't want to miss.
On the men's side, the Ravens and Lions met just two weeks ago at the House-Laughton invitational and things haven't improved for the 0-2 Lions since. With a tough opening weekend the Lions fell 57-46 to Laurier before losing 86-82 to the #4 Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.
The Lions will surely be a far improved team from the one that shot just 17.3% on October 18th in the Nest. Over their last four games the Lions have shot 36.1%. The #9 Ravens currently find themselves in the middle of the conference with their opponents averaging 42.6% shooting in the regular season.
Both women's and men's hockey hit the road this weekend with sights set on adding some wins to their records.
All women's and men's hockey games will be live on OUAtv.
Women's hockey will be in tough on Friday night when they face #5 Guelph (5-2). Jammed in the middle of a packed West Division, Guelph are dangerous on their Olympic sized home ice. Carleton will need to protect the middle if they want to redeem their early season 3-1 loss to the Gryphons.
Saturday, the Ravens travel further South to face Brock. The Ravens have points in three of seven games since beating Brock on opening night but the Baders are rolling coming off wins over #10 Toronto (5-1) and #8 Waterloo (2-1). The Ravens offense will need to get to OUA Athlete of the Week Kennedy Lonson early if they want to take away some of the Badgers' momentum.
Despite building momentum with an overtime loss to #3 Concordia on Thursday, the men's team hits the road this weekend winless in six. The road gets no easier for Carleton as they square off with #7 Queen's Friday.
The 8-2 Gaels beat Carleton 5-2 two weeks ago, despite being outshot by the Ravens 31-24. The Ravens have been improving since their game against Queen's, and arguably deserved a better fate Sunday against Western.
The Ravens weekend only gets tougher with a short turnaround before heading into the tight confines of Constantine Arena Saturday afternoon to face RMC at 2:00 PM. Carleton enters the weekend five points back of Ottawa and McGill for the final OUA playoff spot.
