Rookie Kaitlyn Langille made 48 saves as the Carleton Ravens beat the Windsor Lancers 4-1 on Friday night. For the Ravens, it was their second straight win as they prepare to face Ottawa next weekend in a home and home that culminates with the Colonel By Classic at TD Place.
Carleton carried the majority of the play in a relatively quiet first period but couldn't get anything by Cadence Petitclerc in the Windsor goal. After outshoot the Lancers 8-3 in the first, Carleton turned up the heat in the second. Sydney Berta (Geneva, Swi.) opened the score when she slotted home a rebound when Julia Mumford's shot hit Justina Beard (Ottawa, Ont.) in front. The Bradford defender scurried to keep the puck in at the line before sailing her shot towards the goal, and suddenly the Ravens had momentum.
The Ravens would extend their lead five minutes later when Anya Misner picked up a trickling rebound behind Petitclec to double the lead. The Cooks Creek, Manitoba, forward wasn't done there. Later in the period Misner would delay on the zone entry cycling the puck with Hayden Serniuk. Serniuk fed Shannon McDonald at the point drove the net collecting McDonald's rebound for a 3-0 lead.
Misner would win a footrace and wrap home the Ravens fourth goal of the night into the empty net for her third point of the evening. While the Ravens pulled ahead, Langille stood on hers. Windsor cranked up the pressure through the second and third period putting 46 shots on goal in the final forty minutes.
The young Ravens goalie was up to the task through the night, only being beaten with 2:32 to play when Elissa Benjamin banged home a rebound while on the 6-on-4.
"We're working hard during the week and making sure we're setting ourselves up for success," Misner told the media gathered after the game. "Tonight was a big boost of confidence for us, [we'll] just focus on the week ahead, working hard and building momentum off tonight."
Momentum will be crucial as Carleton now shifts their focus to Thursday night when they face the Gee-Gees at the Minto Athletic Centre before the two teams meet again on Saturday in the first game of the Colonel By Classic doubleheader at TD Place.
