OTTAWA (Nov. 30, 2024) - The Carleton Ravens came out on the losing end of the annual Capital Hoops Classic at TD Place on Saturday afternoon.
The Ravens fell behind early allowing a goal just 52 seconds into the contest when Alyssa Biesenthal slid her own rebound past Kaitlyn Langille to open the scoring. The Ravens goaltender settled in after the early goal and turned aside 20 shots in the first while the Ravens found their footing.
Carleton would rally back in the second and began to create chances by keeping the game at 5-on-5. Despite outshooting the Gee-Gees, Carleton found themselves behind by 2 midway through the second when Arienne Gagon walked around Langille in the slot for a yawning cage.
Carleton would rally late in the period when a pair of rookies took over. Shae Laprade gained the Gee-Gees line driving her way below the goal line and drawing a defender with her before centring the puck to Olwen Jones who redirected it home to cut the lead in half.
The Ravens found themselves in penalty trouble for most of the third, unable to cut into the Ottawa lead. Instead, the Gee-Gees added two empty-net goals in the final three minutes to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Ravens have now finished their first half-season in the OUA. With a 4-7-1-2 record Carleton sits tied with TMU for the fifth and final playoff spot in the OUA East.
